Country All Over is delighted to put our spotlight on Kristy James.
Kristy has just released her debut single 'Overdrive' and shares the experience with Country All Over.
You’ve just released your debut single, ‘Overdrive’…What can you tell us about this song and the emotions of seeing it come to life?
The song was written at a time in my life where I felt my hands were tied and any other option other than expressing myself through song would have ended up detrimental for people I care about, so I used the song as a way to express how I felt and that I’m a fighter and now I’m in OVERDRIVE.
The emotions to see my song come to life were overwhelming, it’s wonderful to see your ideas, thoughts and feelings being put into song that can be shared hopefully around the world.
And what inspired you to chase a career in the music industry? And why Country Music?
From the age of 6 I loved to sing, and that feeling never went away. Right throughout school I concentrated on music and became more and more involved in the industry until I knew exactly what I wanted to concentrate on. Throughout those years I dabbled in many different styles of music and enjoyed them all. When it came to song writing, this is what came out, so it’s what I do, I never wanted to change my style to fit in with a certain genre, I just wrote and what came out is what I do.
Are there any particular artists you feel that have influenced your style?
When I was writing my music I thought of all of the artists that influenced me and realised that there was a bit of everything in there. Melissa Etheridge for the rock edge, Carrie Underwood, Reba, Brooks & Dunn, I feel those artists have greatly influenced my writing.
How have you found the experience of putting together a video clip for your song?
Creating a film clip that expresses how I feel is a scary concept, being that this is such a high energy and highly emotive song, I found it to be an exciting process and am very happy with the finished product.
And now that you’ve given us a taste of your music, what can we expect next?
I am currently working on my EP that I hope to have out in the first half of next year. I don’t even know what to expect from myself, I write what comes out, but it will definitely have the same sort of vibe.
What’s your favourite part of performing live shows? And do you have a show that stands out as a highlight and why?
The people/fans of music are definitely my favourite part! The atmosphere is always fantastic when everyone is having a great time. I don’t have a show that really stands out as a highlight, I love all of the shows I play and I love to meet new people.
Away from music, what are some of your interests and what do you do to have fun and relax?
Relaxing isn’t really ever in the equation for me haha, but I love to eat, I love nice food and I love cupcakes :D
If you could see any artist (dead or alive) live in concert…who would it be and why?
Definitely Michael Jackson, It was devastating to know that I will never get to see him live, I just think his musical talents are beyond genius. He is the most creative, artistic and entertaining artist there has ever been in my view. I think he revolutionised entertainment.
And we also love to throw in a question out of left field…Is there an event where you would love to sing the National Anthem?
The NRL grand final
Thanks for talking to Country All Over Kristy…Is there anything else you would like to say before we let you go?
A huge thank you to Country All Over for your support and be sure to spread the word!
'Overdrive' is available on itunes and via Kristy's website.
