10 Qs with SAMI

1. What is your earliest memory of music or being interested in music?
When I was in year three I began playing saxophone in the school band. This was what got me interested in music… It wasn’t until when I was 11 turning 12 that I found out I loved to sing.

2. What is the best part about being a musician?

I love being a musician for so many reasons… I guess some of the highlights about this career is not only the experience of performing on many different stages in front of thousands of people but also meeting the amount of people that I do. It gives me the opportunity to travel around Australia, write songs, make an album … but really for the chance to get across to people. I run an anti-bullying program through schools and am the Junior Ambassador for ASPECT (Autism Spectrum Australia) which makes me feel as though I am helping people by raising awareness to others and all of this is due to me being a musician in the music industry.

3. How would you describe your music?

This is a difficult question as I am indentified as a country singer so therefore my songs would be country. I love ballads and challenging songs- also ones that are meaningful so when I write, I try to write by following those inspirations. I write about life experiences and what I see other people go through.. I try to write inspiring songs too.

4. Do you have an embarassing/funny musical experience you can share with us?
I have too many really to write… But one would have been that one of the first times I performed on stage in my hometown, I got up on stage and half way through ‘Unchained Melody’ the entire circuit blew haha Took them about half an hour just to fix it and then they were scared for me to keep singing ;)

5. What’s your favorite song to perform?

Other than some of my original songs (as you always have some favourites), I think I love performing my most requested song ‘I Will Always Love You’ by Dolly Parton.

6. Is there a particular artist that has had a musical influence on you?

I love the band Queen (even though they are not country) but in Country, I inspire to Aleyce Simmonds, Martina McBride and just some friends I have in the industry. I inspire to so many people as I began by following Delta Goodrem, Celine Dion and Mariah Carey.

7. What music are you listening to at the moment?

Well I recently arrived home from Tamworth where I picked up a lot of different albums so I am trying to get through all of those ;)

8. What are some of your other interests away from music?

I ride horses (still do but haven’t had time lately) and have been riding since I was born basically.. I love to hang out with friends but now that music is my full time career and I am on tour… I don’t really have any other interests.. Isn’t it great to have a job that you love? This year I will be studying Marketing and next year I will be studying Media and Communications to add onto my singing career.

9. If you could invite any three people to dinner, who would they be?

I know you are probably looking for an answer about famous people but honestly I do not idolize anyone… as I said earlier that I inspire to many people so I sort of mix it up between them all. An honest answer would be my Mum, Dad and brother as they deserve a night out! haha

10. What are you looking forward to most over the next 12 months?

I am on tour this year and gosh am I excited? I have been waiting for the past few years just to finish school to get out and tour.. I have an album launch on Saturday 8th February 2014 as the official launch of the album and the start to my 2014 Australian Album Tour.
